Update on Icons

For those of you like myself that love and appreciate Icons, I have some bad news! The Russian Icon exhibit, or at least the Icons on loan from Russia are offiicially being sent back to the mother land! It seems the years of paper work, which we were assured to keep them, the Icons here for several years met the "fast track"!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Good News on the Art Front

Hi Folks:

I don't know if you heard the good news about the Russian exhibit in Clinton? I heard the removal has been blocked by the government until the Russian government produces the correct legal documents. From the article I read they said it could take years to clear up the documentation hurdles. For those of you that don't know about Clinton, they have a great Icon collection here is the link if you decide to take a peak:

Last week in Art

Pablo Picasso's painting of his mistress and model Marie Therese Walter entitled "La Lecture" brought an impressive 25.2 million pounds or $40.7 million US at a Sotheby's auction last week. I believe this demonstrates that there is a very large market for the works of contemporary artists such as Picasso and others. It is a shame that works of artists such as Picasso are not fully appreciated until their passing.

What's your take?

Last Week in Contemporary Art

A Pablo Picasso painting of his mistress and model Marie-Therese Walter titled "La Lecture" fetched 25.2 million pounds or $40.7 million US at a Sotheby's auction last week. Just goes to show you that contemporary art is still a very much sort after medium.

What's your thoughts?

Paper 1 Complete

Hello All:

Paper 1 is done and I have to say I learned a lot about the genesis of modern art. Even though it is out of my "comfort zone", I have to say I didn't know how many different works were considered contemporary art forms. On think I did pull away from the readings in our text that I wasn't aware of, was that contemporary art is also labeled as "modern art"; I thought it was a new category! I guess that is why I am taking this class, to learn more about the arts...

Until next time, be well.

Welcome to My Journey

Hello All:

Welcome to my first blog post on Contemporary Art. This will be a learning experience for me since I am taking a college class to learn more about said subject matter. I look forward to comparing traditional art and contemporary art, since my only frame of reference has been traditional art! I had the opportunity when in the military in Europe to visit Rome, Paris and Bath England among other venues - this is where most of my art observation took place.

I look forward to posting my thoughts and what I have learned from my Professor in the coming posts.

Be well,

James Gage
